COUNTRY:  CUBA.

Popular organizations from across Latin America and the Caribbean gathered in Cuba through Alba Movimientos to discuss regional solidarity, social movements, and the political and economic challenges affecting the continent. The meeting brought together representatives from grassroots organisations, community groups, labor movements, and social activists who exchanged perspectives on strengthening cooperation among popular sectors. Discussions focused on themes including social justice, economic inequality, regional integration, and the role of grassroots movements in shaping alternatives to existing development models.

A central theme of the gathering was the defence of solidarity-based approaches and the continued influence of socialist ideas among some social movements in the region. Participants examined the challenges facing Latin American and Caribbean countries, including economic pressures, inequality, restrictions on social programs, and the need for greater cooperation between communities. The organisations highlighted the importance of building networks between movements in different countries to share experiences, promote social participation, and address common challenges affecting working-class communities, rural populations, and marginalised groups.

The meeting in Cuba also reflected ongoing debates about the future direction of Latin America and the Caribbean amid changing political and economic conditions. Members of Alba Movimientos emphasised the importance of regional cooperation, people-to-people diplomacy, and strengthening the role of civil society in discussions about development and sovereignty. The gathering served as a platform for social organisations to reaffirm their commitment to collective action while debating strategies for responding to the continent’s current challenges, including economic uncertainty, environmental concerns, and demands for greater social inclusion.
