Hundreds of residents were evacuated from communities surrounding Guatemala’s Fuego volcano after a powerful eruption sent ash, volcanic gas and lava cascading down its slopes. Authorities issued emergency alerts and relocated families from high-risk areas as the volcano, one of Central America’s most active, showed signs of intensified activity. Emergency response teams were deployed to monitor the situation and provide assistance to affected communities. 

The eruption produced large ash clouds and dangerous pyroclastic flows, forcing officials to close nearby roads and suspend classes in vulnerable areas. Disaster management authorities warned that continued volcanic activity and forecast rainfall could trigger destructive mudflows, increasing the risk to surrounding villages. Residents were advised to remain in evacuation shelters until conditions improve. 

Fuego has a long history of destructive eruptions, including the deadly 2018 disaster that claimed hundreds of lives. Officials said they are maintaining close surveillance of the volcano and coordinating with scientific agencies to provide timely warnings should the eruption intensify further. The government emphasized that public safety remains the highest priority as emergency operations continue.
