COUNTRY:  MEXICO.

Mexico and Japan strengthened their economic cooperation during a high-level meeting between Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, and Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi. The discussions focused on expanding bilateral ties in trade, investment, and economic development, with both countries highlighting the importance of closer coordination to support long-term economic growth and stronger supply chains.

The officials discussed plans to hold a High-Level Economic Dialogue aimed at identifying new areas of collaboration, particularly in strategic sectors such as energy and artificial intelligence. Mexico also recognized the important role played by Japanese companies in the country through job creation, technology transfer, and investment, while expressing interest in further cooperation in areas including railway modernization, port development, and logistics.

Both sides also exchanged views on trade opportunities under agreements such as the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintain regular communication and continue building a stronger economic partnership that benefits both Mexico and Japan.
