Guatemala recorded a magnitude 4.3 earthquake on 16 July after a tremor struck off the Pacific coast near the department of Santa Rosa. According to the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (INSIVUMEH), the quake occurred at a depth of about 69 kilometres, reducing its impact at the surface. Although the tremor was felt in several parts of the country, authorities reported no immediate casualties or significant structural damage.

Emergency management officials monitored the situation and advised residents to remain calm while following established earthquake safety procedures. Local authorities carried out precautionary assessments of public infrastructure and reminded communities to stay informed through official government updates. The event also highlighted Guatemala’s location along the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire, where earthquakes are relatively common.

Government agencies continued monitoring for any aftershocks but indicated that normal activities could proceed as no major risks were identified. Disaster preparedness officials emphasized the importance of emergency planning and public awareness, noting that regular drills and rapid response systems remain essential for minimizing the impact of future seismic events.
